L.I. Internet Entrepreneur Hits A Home Run!
Holbrook, NY November 2011
When Victor "Sonny" Stancarone was growing up in Long Island. he was always highly motivated. At 7, he wanted to learn how to play the piano and kept asking his father, an accomplished musician, to teach him. His Dad felt he was too young but Sonny persisted and kept asking over and over again until his father relented and did so. At 10, he cured his childhood asthma by practicing yoga and breathing techniques. At Carey High School, he earned several MVP and Captain awards and broke track & field records. He still holds the half mile record over 40 years later. He went on to attend Adelphi University on a full sports scholarship and began teaching yoga at the school at 21. Sonny has run successful stress management, fitness, yoga and piano lesson businesses. His first love was always piano and ultimately he found a way to combine his piano and yoga experience into his"Piano Yoga Play Piano Instantly" DVD Kit, helping people to play piano in a relaxed and easy method he developed. Now he is owner & CEO of a growing International Internet Piano Company and Piano TV show.
Sonny saw the potential reach of the Internet long before many others. Upon it's inception he invested heavily into online video applications, developing his piano website and also developing video websites for businesses such as a wedding band and real estate agents that allow customers to view their products online before making critical decisions such as wedding band selection and purchasing a home or piano.
Over the past 15 years, Sonny's online piano sales business www.SonnysPianoTV.com has experienced tremendous growth. He currently sells over 90% of his pianos online via creative video tours wherein he plays and demonstrates his pianos for sale for all the world to see. He has a solid reputation and backs all sales with warranties and a team of refinishers and piano repair staff to assure excellence. Many customers are pleasantly surprised at how accessible he makes himself, still speaking directly with most customers and providing genuine advice with his extensive knowledge of pianos. He ships all over the country and this year, the business has expanded to such places as Taiwan, Canada, England and Australia. The business continues to expand and with it, Sonny's Internet presence has grown.
Recently, this forward thinking entrepreneur decided to run a never before tried online video "Win A Free Piano Contest" on Facebook and the Grand Prize is a Knabe Baby Grand Piano. Two other pianos, a Steinway upright and an Aeolian player piano and other prizes will be awarded to the lucky winners and runner-ups.
The pilot contest began on November 12th with contestants uploading videos of themselves playing all forms of keyboards in the hopes of gaining fan popularity and votes. The contest has received close to 8,000 visits this past week, with well over 1,000 visitors per day and growing. The top two videos are running a close race with over 1,100 votes apiece, flipping into first and second place multiple times during the day. Over 4,700 total votes have been cast, and fans can see votes as they change dynamically. These results are from Internet word of mouth only, with little advertising. Sonny expects that once the word really gets out there and/or the contests get some press coverage, each new contest will grow exponentially, especially as contestant videos are included on his Internet and Cable TV shows. Although contestants must live in the continental US to receive delivery on the prizes, tabulated votes include international fans in Taiwan, England, Canada, Australia, and the Philippines. Fans from all over the world are requesting an international contest, which may be considered in the future. This contest is the first of many planned promotions to increase the public awareness of the joys and health benefits of piano playing for relaxation and fun.
After all, during these trying economic times, everyone can use a way to relax and music always accomplishes this. Sonny's sale of refurbished used pianos has found a niche. Pianos run from $500 beginner uprights to $50,000 Steinway classics.
What's next for this entrepreneur? The sky seems to be the limit and Sonny shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. He says he wants to morph the contest into a prime time nationwide cable TV show to inspire more people to play the piano for health & wellness. Currently his "Sonny's PianoTV Show" airs 24/7 on his website and on local Long Island Cablevision TV networks.
